A total of 49 athletes from more than a dozen disciplines have been chosen for the Isle of Man Sport Aid’s 2020/21 scholarship programme.

Each scholarship provides a combination of financial support towards their individual sporting needs, plus access to services and workshops at the Isle of Man Sport Institute.

The athletes will receive their support certificates during the Isle of Man Sports Awards at the Villa Marina in Douglas on Thursday, April 2.

IoM Sport Aid is a registered charity and has played a pivotal role in supporting many of the island’s top sports men and women over the past 20 years, with many recipients going on to achieve success at the highest level.

Sarah Corlett, chairman of IoM Sport Aid, said: ’All successful recipients were nominated by their sport’s governing body before facing a rigorous selection process.’

She added: ’All sponsorship goes directly towards supporting our athletes and I would like to say a huge thank you to all sponsors for their continued support.’

The charity works in partnership with Isle of Man Government, businesses and sponsors to give the island’s talented athletes the opportunity to compete at national, international and world level, and to act as ambassadors to promote the Isle of Man as a centre of sporting excellence.

Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, said: ’The list of recipients really shines a light on the depth of talent across Manx sport.’

The presentation of scholarships will take place during the Isle of Man Sports Awards, sponsored by Microgaming PlayItForward, which will see 11 awards handed out including the 2019 Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.

This year’s special guest will be Olympic Gold medallist Amy Williams MBE and tickets for the ceremony are available from www.villagaiety.com
