One of football’s most famous faces, Paul Gascoigne, is set to give a special talk in the island early next year.
Arguably the greatest British player of his generation, Gazza had an extraordinary career from his early days at his hometown club Newcastle to the end of his playing time at Burnley, achieving cult status along the way.
Outside of football supporters, Gazza is probably best known for crying when booked in a World Cup semi-final while playing for England in 1990 and his battles with alcohol and other addictions, which have been played out in the British press for almost his entire adult life.
During the talk at the Palace Hotel, Gazza will talk about his career and life on and off the pitch in conversation with ex-professional rugby player turned TV commentator John Lebbon.
After the talk, there will also be time for an audience question and answer session before several items are auctioned off for fans to buy.
Mr Lebbon told the Examiner: ’We’re pleased to be bringing Gazza to the island as the Manx people are always lovely, including the staff at the casino.
’Gazza is probably the funniest speaker going and puts a funny spin on his brilliant career and also a few dramas off it. He is a must-see for sports fans.’
The talk, An Evening With Paul Gascoigne, is at the Palace Hotel, Douglas, on Thursday, February 22, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £35 for general entry, £55 for VIP, including a photo with Gazza and £100 for a golden entry ticket, which includes a photo with Gazza and a signed frame.
