This Saturday sees the next in the series of "Dark Horse Presents" held at Amber in Douglas.

This clubnight, the third held at the Douglas venue over the course of this year sees UK based Deep House guru David Moran of Innercity Records/Block9 heading to the island to top the bill alongside Vinyl John.

The doors for this free event open at 8pm and it runs until midnight.

Whilst we’re on the subject of all things Amber, the annual Battle of the Bands competition is looming on the horizon. Entries are now closed and the line-ups confirmed.

Expect to see the likes of Warbird, Dead Princes, Last Drags, Mad Daddy, Disillusionists, Han-FX, Sanssouci, Slow Decay, Raumstadt, Ironclad, Man In The Woods and Ian Molyneux going head to head throughout November as the battle unfolds as four head to the final on Saturday the 25th to pick up the £750 grand prize.

I’ll be previewing the heats and bands each week as they unfold but in the meantime you can keep up to date by visiting the Amber bar Facebook page.

Borderline is also out and about this weekend. They are influenced by the likes of Chuck Berry, Robert Cray, Albert King, BB King, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, and Jerry Lee Lewis, and the line-up features Heinrich Koop, Keith Randall, Alan Presford and Nigel Johnson. They appear at The Creek in Peel tomorrow night (Friday).

Staying out west, you’ll catch the aforementioned Rockabilly boys, Mad Daddy there at The Creek on Saturday.

Heading back to Douglas and to Jaks where on Saturday night you’ll find Penthouse Dive in one of their regular lots at the Douglas based bar.

The three piece band, featuring Mark Riley on guitar and vocals, Mark Cleator on bass and Mark Brabbs on drums, play covers from the likes of ZZ Top, Foo Fighters, The Police, Thin Lizzy and the like.

This band is very much a staple of the Manx gig circuit and are well worth checking out if those influences sound like your cup of tea.

As reported here last in last weeks column, this Saturday night sees a charity event held in support of Anthony Nolan and Hospice Isle of Man.

Taking place at Onchan Village Hall, the line-up features a wealth of local talent, such as Suzy Manton, Gareth Hardinge, Nell Kneale, Lauren Gray, Les Williamson, The Chris Winchester Band and Eugene Wilson.

That’s it for this week!
