Twelve-year-old Linken Bevan, from St John’s, has won another go-karting championship, this time over the weekend at Rowrah, Cumbria.
Last week’s Manx Independent reported on Linken’s win at Thruxton racetrack in Hampshire, where he was handed the trophy by famous F1 mechanic Rob Smedley.
Linken raced in Rowrah with 17 other go-kart cadets, several of whom were also Manx.
In qualifying he came second, only .03 of a second off pole position.
In the first race he came fourth, the second he came first and in the last and final he came first, overtaking on the very last corner. He also got the fastest lap time.
Linken was accompanied by his grandad Eric Bevan, who acts as his mechanic, and who he nicknames his ’Grand Mechanic’.
It was Eric’s grandfather who first took him racing at Jurby racetrack, with Linken later going on to become the island cadet go karting champion two years in a row.
His mother Victoria last week told the Manx Independent about how the Queen Elizabeth II High School student struggled with dyslexia in school, but was able to apply himself better on the racetrack.
Speaking about his latest win, she said: ’He not only did his grandad proud, but displaying the Isle of Man flag, he made us Manxies proud again!’
Linken said: ’There is some good competition here, the lads in front had some serious good machines and raced well.
’It’s clear they have sponsors and a lot of money ploughed into them.
He added: ’I am so grateful for Timmy Collins’ words of advice, our van driver George Collister, my grandad Eric Bevan, grandma Wendy Bevan and mother Victoria - you have been a rock for me!’
