Manx Telecom has given its assurances that improvements to manx.net are being made to ensure that issues will not be repeated.
The Manx Independent contacted the service provider after account holders expressed their frustrations about not being able to send or receive emails.
A ’corrupted mail cache’ has been named as the cause of the problem.
Anita Barnard, head of customer experience at Manx Telecom, said: ’We encountered a problem with our manx.net mail platform last Thursday morning (May 10) and this affected users’ ability to access and view their mail.
’A number of users were affected, in most cases intermittently.
’The root cause was a corrupted mail cache, the part of the platform that stores and processes mail items to individual users.
’During the restore process, no mail items were lost whilst being queued for delivery. However, we experienced a longer than anticipated delay in fully restoring the service, which for a small number of customers was ongoing until Tuesday (May 15).’
She added: ’During this time our on-island technical teams worked around the clock to resolve what was a complex issue and minimise the impact as much as possible, supported by our customer experience and communications teams who kept customers informed of progress.
’We appreciate how inconvenient a loss of service can be and sincerely apologise for falling short of the standards our customers expect.
’We can reassure our valued manx.net customers that we are working with the software provider to improve the reliability of the manx.net mail platform, and help prevent similar issues in the future.’
