A young cousin of late TT star Dan Kneen has raised more than £3,000 towards the motorcyclist’s new charity.

Billy ’the Bullet’ Kneen, a Cronk y Berry primary school pupil, managed to raise the amount by cycling from Douglas to Peel and back along the old railway line with friends and family.

It marked a year since Dan’s fatal crash at Churchtown during qualifying on May 30, 2018.

In total Billy raised £3,240 towards the recently set up Dan Kneen Charitable Fund.

The charity aims to help initiatives that supported the late TT racer from Onchan. It will host a ball on November 22 at the Comis Hotel and Golf Resort. Ticket details will be announced later. However, you can register for interest at [email protected].

Billy said he felt prompted to raise money for his cousin’s charity and that it led to his mum, Sarah, coming up with the cycling fundraiser idea.

’Dan was really nice,’ he previously told the Manx Independent.

’He took me to trials and I always used to see him at the TT and he would let me sit on his bike every year.’

About 50 people took part in the fundraiser, which took place on June 9.

Part of the crowd included Dan’s grandad, aunty, nana, uncle, cousins and many friends of his as well as his father, Richard.

At the event, Richard said: ’It just shows how well-liked Dan was. It’s great to remember Dan and a good way to raise money for the charity.

’Some good will come out of it - the money raised will be going to different charities. It’s better to have something that puts something back into the community and to remember Dan in that way.’

Dan’s family attended the cheque presentation including his partner Leanne Harper.
