Phil Kelsall, principal organist at the famous Tower Ballroom in Blackpool, will be playing a concert on the island’s own ’Mighty Wurlitzer’ at the Villa Marina Arcade on Douglas Promenade on Thursday, June 22.
Mr Kelsall has more than 40 years’ playing experience at the Tower, and at least 26 CD albums of Wurlitzer music to his name plus earlier releases on vinyl and cassette tape.
He has recently been touring in America and Europe and the Isle of Man is now one of the next destinations on his itinerary.
Peter Jordan of the Friends of the Isle of Man Wurlitzer said: ’We always look forward to Phil’s visit with keen anticipation. His skill with the very complex instrument that a theatre organ is is simply astonishing, and music seems to just flow from his fingers and feet like water. If anyone deserves the title of ’maestro’ then Phil certainly does. Anyone in doubt - come along to the concert and see for yourself.’
The concert begins at 7.30 pm and tickets (priced at £10 each) are available from the Gaiety Theatre box office or the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal.
The Friends will also be selling tickets in the arcade from Monday, June 19, through until Thursday, June 22, between 10am and 4pm, providing an opportunity to find out more information about the organ and its history.
Tickets will also be on sale on the door from 7pm on the evening of the concert.
