Industrial action by bus drivers has ended after an agreement was reached with the Department of Infrastructure.

A work to rule which was set to continue until Sunday has ended with immediate effect after a proposal was agreed by all drivers from all depots.

A statement from Unite the union said: ’Unite the union and the Department of Infrastructure chief executive Nick Black are pleased to announce that following a meeting held within the Manx Industrial Relations service a proposal was agreed upon for the balloting of drivers from all depots which comprises the following compromises on both sides.

’The leave allocation for the TT period 2018 will allow the release of seven drivers to take annual leave in the practice week and 10 drivers during the race week.

’There is proviso on the race week in that the last five drivers to request the leave have to give a commitment that should their driving services be needed then they will have to come back into work and drive for Mad Sunday only, which the DoI feel will be extremely busy.

’Those who do have to be brought back in for that day will receive an additional payment on top of pay of basic pay of £5.52, all other drivers will receive £19.48 per hour.

’This agreement sits outside of the drivers agreement and will end at 11.59pm on June 10, 2018.

’As a return, the drivers will allow the management to roster for the TT period two weeks in advance to ensure that sufficient cover is available to cover the routes during the TT period.

’It is also agreed that annual leave may be allocated over a 12 month period from January 1 each year subject to the existing arrangements within the driving agreement.

’The work to rule ends with immediate effect of this ballot result which was accepted unanimously across all depots and drivers.’
