The boss of a new radio station being launched in the island claims it will play the sorts of sounds that will appeal to people who have felt ’abandoned’ by the other stations.
Test transmissions for the station called The Sound are being broadcast this week and the aim is to launch the service proper next week.
The Sound is a ’sister’ station for Energy FM.
But the 24-hour music station will only be available on the internet.
That does not appear to worry Juan Turner, station manager at Energy FM, who says more and more people are now using new technology such as smart speakers, through the internet to enjoy listening to radio.
He says the station is designed to appeal to people who enjoy iconic artists from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
And he claims the new station has been created ’to serve a radio market that has been abandoned by other radio stations.’
Yesterday (Monday) on what was the 19th anniversary of Energy FM, which is based at Champion House, Tromode, Mr Turner said he had spent a lot of time planning the new station which will have a ’separate identity’ to Energy which specialises in playing chart hits.
Mr Turner maintains there is still plenty of room available to launch another radio station in the island.
He likened the Sound to a mix between Greatest Hits Radio which is a classic hits radio network in the UK, and Smooth Radio, a network of adult contemporary UK radio stations.
