Island racehorse owner Trevor Hemmings watched one of his racehorses, Cloth Cap, win one of the biggest events in the jump racing calendar this afternoon.
Millions of ITV viewers tuned in for the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase at Newbury.
’We doff our caps to Trevor Hemmings’ said Ed Chamberlin, presenter of ITV Racing.
Cloth Cap ridden by Tom Scudamore, made every single yard of the running of the prestigious race over three miles and two furlongs.
Mr Hemmings, who lives in the north of the island, has won the race twice before in his famous racing colours, with Many Clouds and Trabolgan.
Trabolgan’s jockey Mick Fitzgerald, who now works in broadcasting, said he was thrilled for Mr Hemmings who was watching the race on television from his base in Andreas.
He said it would ’mean the world’ for the island businessman after he recently cut back on his racing string.
Irish racing legend Ruby Walsh said Cloth Cap who led all the way, ’jumped the rest of the runners into the ground’.
Cloth Cap’s trainer Jonjo O’Neill said the eight-year-old jumped ’brilliantly’ and agreed that he could be heading for the Grand National.
A clearly emotional Tom Scudamore could not contain his joy at riding Cloth Cap to such a convincing victory.
Mr Hemmings has won the Aintree Grand National three times and told Isle of Man Newspapers earlier this month that he was eyeing up Cloth Cap as a potential runner in the big race.
