It is now cheaper to visit heritage sites, thanks to the VAT cut.
VAT on admission prices to Manx National Heritage attractions reduced from 20% to 5%, with the reduced rate effective from Wednesday this week.
The new prices reduce the price of an annual pass for Isle of Man residents or holiday pass for off-island visitors to £22, with the annual pass offering a one-off opportunity for local residents to buy a year’s admission at this price.
Standard admission prices at the Manx National Heritage sites have also been temporarily reduced, with free entry temporarily extended to off-island children.
Edmund Southworth, director of Manx National Heritage, said: ’The reduction in VAT for the tourism and hospitality sectors provides encouragement for the public to visit our incredible heritage attractions, helping keep our doors open and support our work.
’Many of our staff were redeployed to support the health services in recent months. Thanks to the hard work and flexibility of the team, and support from the Isle of Man Government we have now been able to open most of our sites safely for our local community.
’We have had a very positive response from visitors who have been able to explore and enjoy the national heritage which we hold in trust for them.
’All charities in the island have been impacted by this crisis and MNH welcomes donations from those who feel able to support our work but reducing our prices means we can offer exceptional value as well as a welcoming experience to all.’
From Saturday to Wednesday, Laxey Wheel, Cregneash, House of Manannan, Castle Rushen and the Manx Museum are now open from 10am to 4pm. The library and archives at the Manx Museum is open Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10am - 4pm.
Peel Castle, Rushen Abbey and the Grove are open Thursday to Sunday 11am to 3pm.
The new pricing structure will remain in force until January 12, with the revised admission prices, opening times, hygiene and safety measures for each site published on www.manxnationalheritage.im
