The coronavirus pandemic means that another annual fixture has been cancelled.
The St John’s Produce Show was due to be held on Saturday, September 5, at St John’s Methodist Hall.
But organisers have decided it should not go ahead.
Chairman Sue Staley said: ’Whilst we appreciate we still have just over three months and, hopefully current restrictions will have eased by September, the committee feel it is socially responsible for us to cancel this year’s show.
’We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful support we receive each year from our sponsors, advertisers, home bakers, flower and vegetable growers, photographers, artists and the many, many people who enter the hall each year to admire the wonderful displays or join in the bidding at the auction.
’We are sure you agree that the health, safety and wellbeing of all these wonderful people is of paramount importance.
’I would like to give a special mention to our sponsors and advertisers ..... Thank you for your many years of loyal support and we appreciate the tough and challenging times you are currently in.
’The committee very much regret having to take this decision. This is the first time since the show in the village commenced over 70 years ago that it has not taken place.
’Keep safe and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday. September 4, 2021, for next year’s show.’
