A 22-year-old man accused of arson in Ramsey has refused to appear in court.

Kyson Quentin Stephen Bell was due to appear via video link from the prison on Tuesday, November 12, with his case set to be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

However, the prison officer on the video link told the court that Mr Bell had declined to attend the video link room.

The offence is alleged to have been committed at an address at Albert Street in Ramsey on September 15, with armed police and negotiators attending the scene.

Mr Bell was represented in court by his advocate Paul Rodgers, who asked for the committal proceedings to be adjourned until December 3.

Mr Rodgers said that this would allow time to obtain more information on his client’s mental health and review the charge.

During a previous court appearance, on October 22, when asked to confirm his name, Mr Bell said: ‘Nah, I’m Mr Firestarter Bell,’ then added that he loved prison and didn’t have mental health issues.

No bail application was made and the defendant, whose address was given as the prison, is remanded until December 3.
