A 44-year-old man has been fined £650 for driving without insurance.

Husamedien Fdlalmolla, of South Drive, Douglas, admitted the offence, which was committed at Braddan Road on November 26 last year.

Two other allegations, of dangerous driving and having no driving licence, which he had denied, were dismissed after the prosecution offered no evidence.

The defendant was represented in court by advocate David Reynolds, who said that his client had thought he was eligible to drive on his wife’s insurance policy, but had not realised that had lapsed and his details were no longer on it.

Mr Reynolds asked for credit to be given for the guilty plea and said that the offence had been an oversight.

The defendant agreed to pay the fine within 28 days.

Legal costs of £2,900, relating to the two dismissed charges, were awarded to Fdlalmolla from central funds.
