Offender Garry Vernon has been found guilty of three counts of theft equalling £997,068 after a trial in the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

The money was stolen from Vernon’s wife’s late grandfather.

The trial lasted 11 days, with a verdict being reached on day 12, and had been restarted five times before proceedings could be completed.

Vernon, from Ramsey, was also found not guilty of two further charges of theft, equalling £14,853.

He will be sentenced on April 5.
