A teenage R-plate driver from Ramsey has been fined £400 for driving without insurance.
Connor Ward admitted the offence and also had his licence endorsed with four penalty points.
High Bailiff James Brooks also extended the 19-year-old’s R-plate period by three months.
The court heard that Ward was driving a Honda Civic on Quarterbridge Road in Douglas on May 17, at 12.50am.
Police stopped him initially over an issue with a brake light.
The vehicle belonged to his mother and he was given five days to produce driving documents.
Ward, who lives at Laurys Avenue, went to police headquarters on May 21 with an insurance policy, but it only authorised his mother and over 25s to drive the Civic.
He had insurance for his own car but that also didn’t cover him to drive his mother’s vehicle.
Defence advocate Victoria Kinrade handed in letters of reference for her client and asked for credit to be given for his guilty plea.
Ms Kinrade said that Ward had held a licence for seven months and had thought his own insurance would cover him to drive the Civic.
The advocate said that the teenager would now lose his job as a clean licence was required.
Ward was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs which he will pay, along with the fine, at a rate of £10 per week.
