One of the island’s most famous musical exports will revisit some of his oldest songs during an online concert next week.

Davy Knowles will host an acoustic solo show live from Shirk Studios, in his home town of Chicago on Sunday, November 1, at 7pm central standard time (CST) which translates as 1am GMT on Monday, November 2, for those wanting to tune in from the Isle of Man.

The one-off concert will see the Port St Mary-born bluesman perform his debut album, ’Roll Away’, in its entirety.

Davy wrote and recorded the album at local producer Dave Armstrong’s DAM Production studios with his original Manx band, Back Door Slam, which also featured drummer Ross Doyle and bassist Adam Jones, considered by most to be the ’classic’ Back Door Slam line-up.

Among the tracks included is the anthemic title track, written by Davy many years before he left the island, and ’Stay’, an emotional tribute to his former school friend and Back Door Slam band mate Brian Garvey, who died in a car accident.

The album came out in 2007, when the group weren’t long out of school and, shortly after the release, they made a famous appearance at the prestigious South by SouthWest festival in Texas.

Following several jaw-dropping performances, they impressed enough to embark on two lengthy US tours in support of acts such as REO Speedwagon, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kid Rock.

Shortly after the band’s second tour, Back Door Slam broke up, with Davy remaining in the US to continue as ’Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam’, releasing the album ’Coming Up For Air’, before embarking on his own successful solo career.

Davy, who is currently kept off the road and in his studio by the ongoing pandemic in America, said he is looking forward to having the chance to revisit material he hasn’t played in a long time.

Tickets for the live stream, online concert are $20, or around £15.50, available through davyknowles.com
