Two former Douglas hotels are to be auctioned off next month through a London based auction house.
The hotels, Wyndham and Pitcairn, which have been closed for a number of years, have fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years.
The buildings are being sold as one lot through commercial auctioneers Allsop.
A sale is almost guaranteed as the buildings have been listed as ’offered without reserve’ meaning as long as there is one bid on the buildings, they will be sold.
The auction house describes the properties as a ’potential redevelopment opportunity subject to the necessary consents’ in a ’town centre location close to the beach’.
The state of the buildings is described as being one of ’disrepair’ and having six floors each.
Last month, Isle of Man Newspapers reported that the buildings on Church Road Marina were subject to legal action with Douglas Borough Council.
The legal issues surrounding the properties are detailed in the auction listing as ’relating to their structure and condition’.
At that time, the two buildings were for sale, also as a pair, through Chrystal’s estate agents for £150,000.
Since last year, the council has been pursuing the owners in an attempt to address the condition of the buildings. This has largely been conducted through third party asset managers.
Last month, we reported the buildings have broken windows, slates missing from the roof and foliage is growing out of the upper levels.
Douglas Council removed slates earlier in the year during the winter storms when high winds loosened tiles, making them unsafe. The buildings will go under the hammer as lot 190 on Tuesday, July 3.
