In its fourth year since the ’resuscitation’ of the traditional comedy show, Noble’s Hospital staff again came together on Saturday, June 24, to treat a packed Gaiety Theatre to an amusing array of self-penned sketches and projected films, based on medical and local themes.
The concert programme unfolded from a series of home-styled ’apps’ on a virtual IPad. Included in this was ’IOM Satnav’, where the audience howled with laughter at driving difficulties faced at the Quarterbridge. ’IOM Weather’ and ’Trip Advisor’ proved popular, as did any topical references to the inner workings of our hospital and management.
’Top Gear’ was an ingenious pre-recorded Manx recreation of the epic ’races’ on the BBC programme.
Against a bicycle and the steam train, the BMW driver used a 1992 Ordnance Survey map, which ultimately led him to the old Noble’s site.
’The Full Monty’, featuring male junior doctors, naturally provoked an animated reaction among the ladies.
It was apparent from the opening number of ’We Will Rock You’ that this show would indeed rock, and appropriate props were combined with strong performances of acting, singing and dancing from everybody in the cast.
Dr Matthew Todd, consultant nephrologist, is a driving force in this, which last year raised £7,000 for charity and whose proceeds this year, with thanks to Pokerstars for sponsorship, will be handed to Bridge The Gap and Manx Care Appeal. Matt frequently took centre stage in a variety of outfits, andone particular highlight was his Rocky Horror’s Frank’*’furter.
Each person exiting the theatre would have undoubtedly been humming ’Mack the (Surgical) Knife’.
