It is 90 years since St Ninian’s High School’s upper school site opened.

The Friends of St Ninian’s High School are to mark the anniversary on September 26 and 28.

The events include a talk about the history of the site with the historian and old boy Peter Kelly providing much of the detail.

There will also be tours of some of the older and more traditional aspects of the building as well as some of the most modern facilities on the site.

Other attractions include display of memorabilia as well as refreshments and the chance to chat.

There is no charge for the event although any donations will be gratefully accepted.

The school says that it appreciates those wishing to go to ring either school office (upper 648800, lower 648900) to let staff know.

But people can just turn up on the evening.

Organisers are asking former pupils of the school, known at different times as Douglas High School for Boys and simply Douglas High School before officially becoming St Ninian’s High School in 1985 to take along any photos and share memories.

They say this might help them prepare for the centenary celebrations in 10 years’ time.

Former headteacher Andy Fox said: ’The school will have played quite a large part in the early lives of many people on the Isle of Man.

’It has a rich and varied history which has been fun and interesting to research. We hope that many former students, parents, staff members and interested members of the community will come along and enjoy these informal, fun and informative evenings.’

The evening events will start at 7pm and last about two hours.
