A global charity on the island still intend to show a major new film, which addresses climate change, despite being forced to postpone next week’s screening.

The One World Centre and the Isle of Man Climate Change Coalition was set to host the screening of ’2040’, a new film by Australian filmmaker, Damon Gameau, at the Studio Theatre, Ballakermenn High School, on Saturday, January 15, from 7.30pm.

However, the announcement of the new social restriction guidelines has forced the charity to postpone the screening until a later date.

’2040’ is described as an ’accessible, informative and optimistic look at solutions to the climate crisis’ and features Damon travelling across the planet to find innovative and creative approaches to tackling the growing climate crisis.

He said that the film, which was released last year, was inspired by his four-year-old daughter. He set out on a global journey to meet innovators and changemakers to discover what the future of the planet could look like by the year 2040.

He spoke to world leading and innovative groups involved in climate, economics, technology, civil society, education, agriculture and sustainability, as well as asking more than 100 children what they would like to see in the future, to create a positive outlook, rather than a vision that is doom-laden and negative, as is so often envisioned.

’I am looking forward to sharing 2040 with new audiences, at such a crucial and pivotal moment in the global climate crisis,’ said Damon after the release of his film.

’I believe there is room for a new story, a story that focuses on the solutions.

’2040 is a letter to my four-year-old daughter showing her an alternative future to the doom and gloom version we are currently presented with.

It cannot be made up. This film is not a utopian fantasy; it is an exercise in what I call "fact-based dreaming".

’It is the narrative the next generation needs to see, to aspire to, and to believe is possible.’

The film screening is free to attend, although places must be reserved via eventbrite.co.uk
