The managing director of a petrol garage has apologised after a contamination problem forced it to suspend its diesel supply.

Ian Corkill, of Corkill’s Garage, Main Road, Onchan, told the Examiner a small number of complaints had been made about the fuel, beginning on Wednesday last week which led to the garage suspending diesel sales over the weekend.

Mr Corkill said that initial tests found no contamination, however a second more detailed examination found an unknown contaminant and a small amount of moisture.

The garage posted on Facebook on Saturday that it was in the process of removing the fuel from its tanks and clearing supply lines and filters.

The post also denied the suggestion made by some on social media that it was a result of biodiesel being used in the fuel tanks.

However, Corkills added that its supplier Ellan Vannin Fuels (EVF) has not imported biodiesel for at least two years.

One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said the diesel had caused problems with the family car, problems which began last Wednesday after filling up at Corkill’s Garage.

She said that the vehicle no longer starts and the family was waiting for it to be repaired at a mechanics.

Mr Corkill said that a new supply of diesel was being delivered yesterday (Monday) afternoon.

He added: ’I would like to apologise for any issues caused by the problem which has now been resolved.’

Anyone impacted by the problem is asked to contact Corkill’s Garage, for further details call the garage on 675885 or EVF on 844000.

The Examiner contacted EVF for a comment, however at the time of going to print, had received no response.
