What started off as a short flight to Ronaldsway turned into a two hour wait in Manchester for Guernsey’s rugby teams.
Teams from the Guernsey Rugby Academy are due to play on island across the week, with games being played at various age groups.
This morning, the team and ITV’s Tony Curr boarded the flight to the island with Mr Curr tweeting: ’Pretty awesome that this is able to happen.’
However, an hour and a half later at 9.26am, he tweeted: ’Apparently the airport in the Isle of Man isn’t open yet... so we’ve pulled over in Manchester!
’Not getting off of course. Can someone let them know @gsyrugbyacademy are on the way?’
Due to Covid-19, the players and coaches had to sit on the ground at Manchester Airport for two-and-a-half hours, unable to leave the plane.
The Aurigny plane eventually left Manchester and arrived at Ronaldsway at 12.40pm.
Guernsey Rugby Academy tweeted about the diversion ’IoM forgot to open their airport’
Mr Curr’s tweets have since been shared in both the Isle of Man and Guernsey.
