The number of active Covid cases has topped 100 – with 40 of these aged 19 and under.

With 36 new cases in the last 24 hours, the number of active cases has reached 106 with 18 of the new ones from unknown sources.

There are two individuals in hospital.

Public health director Dr Henrietta Ewart said the new cases were overwhelmingly among children, young people and working age adults.

She said 40 of the cases were in the five to 19 age group. The route of the spread of the virus, she said, was likely from household mixing, then from some social events and then onto schools.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle told this afternoon’s coronavirus briefing: ‘We really need you to stay at home as much as possible – I can’t emphasis this enough.’

As of this morning, about 500 people had been identified as close contacts – more than 200 in just the last 24 hours. There are currently 1,579 people in isolation, of which 477 are related to the cluster.
