Three times Grand National winning owner Trevor Hemmings could have at least two strong prospects for this year’s big race at Aintree.
Entries close at midday today [Tuesday] with the list of runners for the big race due to be published tomorrow.[Wednesday]
Lake View Lad is expected to feature in the Randox Health Grand National on Saturday, April 5 in the world’s greatest steeplechase.
Scotland based trainer Nick Alexander has said the horse remains on course for April’s marathon at Aintree after winning the Rowland Meyrick Chase on Boxing Day.
He wears the colours of legendary owner Mr Hemmings, who already has three National wins to his name.
Mr Hemmings tasted Grand National success with Hedgehunter in 2005, Ballabriggs in 2011 and Many Clouds in 2015.
Another success will put Mr Hemmings out on his own as the winning-most owner.
He currently shares the honour with James Machell, Sir Charles Assheton-Smith (previously Charles Duff) and Noel Le Mare, who famously had three wins with the legendary Red Rum in the 1970s.
As well as Lake View Lad Mr Hemmings is also likely to be represented in the National by the Sue and Harvey Smith-trained Vintage Clouds.
The complexion of the race will become clearer on February 12 when the weights for the National are published. Only the top 40 in the handicap will make the cut.
Last year’s winner Tiger Roll is the current ante-post favourite.
Vintage Clouds is currently around 25 to one ante-post with bookies while Lake View Lad is generally around 33 to one.Staged over four miles, two furlongs and 74 yards, with 30 fences jumped, on Saturday, April 6, the Randox Health Grand National is the world’s greatest chase and the most valuable jumps race anywhere in the world.
