A fund-raising music night raised hundreds of pounds for a local charity.
The Summerland memorial concert took place on Saturday, August 10, at the Basement Bar in Douglas, and featured appearances from four local groups, The Chris Winchester Band, Maldune, Truman Falls and the Ballaghs, along with a set from northen soul DJ Peter Dunn.
Paul Tonks, the keyboard player from the Christ Winchester Band, also looked after the stage sound for the night
The annual concert is held to raise awareness and to promote the memory of the Summerland disaster, and also to raise money for charity.
The concert was organised by Chris Shaw and Tina Brennen, a Summerland campaigner who said that the concert was well supported and raised hundreds of pounds for the chosen charity.
’Altogether, we raised a nice round figure of £500 for EPSA IOM, who help people with epilepsy and psychogenic disorders,’ said Tina.
’We are really pleased with the concert this year, and also pleased with the level of support and response we had from friends and the public.
’The bands were all great on the night, and everyone seemed to get into them and have a good time
’This was the first time we have held it in the Basement bar, and the staff there looked after us brilliantly.
’The Summerland memorial concert will return next year, and we’re now looking forward to planning next year’s show.’
