Julian Roderick Power, 70, is married to Hilary and they have four children, Thomas, Helen, Kathryn and Suzi who were all born and brought up in the island where Douglas has been their home for the last 40 years.
Julian works in finance for one of the world’s leading airlines
He has been organist of St Ninian’s Church for 40 years and a Guild accompanist for the brass classes.
He is also conductor of the Isle of Man Choral Society whose choir has recently returned from singing in the Carnegie Hall in New York. On Sunday, March 25 he will be directing IoM Choral Society and IoM Symphony Orchestra in Verdi’s thrilling Requiem at the Villa Marina.
What is your idea of a perfect meal?
Really fresh fish, cooked to perfection, with a few chips and roasted vegetables.
What is your favourite way to relax?
Playing the piano and walking with my wife in the Manx hills and coastal footpaths.
What is your greatest extravagance?
My new S-works bicycle. I need a super light bike in an increasingly futile attempt to out pace my son and sons in law.
Do you have any pets?
No.
What is your greatest achievement?
Bringing up four hard-working, well rounded children.
What is your favourite time of the year?
Late spring for its warmer days, less muddy footpaths, heathers and apple blossom.
What is the first job you ever had?
A newspaper round - my mother helped me on Sundays when the papers were so much heavier.
Do you have any irrational fears?
No.
What is your worst habit?
Ah - you’ll have to ask my long-suffering wife. She’ll probably say that I’m always wanting my own way.
What is your favourite book?
Currently John Suchet’s book on the life of Guiseppe Verdi.
What is your favourite TV programme?
The ITV news and all concerts and opera programmes.
What is your favourite band/artist at the moment?
Manx Concert Brass - I have accompanied almost every member of MCB in their Guild entries over many years and know them all well. Their conductor Ian Clague is inspirational.
What is your favourite part of the Isle of Man?
The Chasms and glorious walks on our southern coastline.
What is the last show/band that you saw live?
Anastasia in New York.
If time/money were no object, what would be your perfect day?
Conducting IoM Choral Society and IoM Symphony Orchestra in Handel’s Messiah in the Albert Hall, with my daughter Helen, who is a professional singer, as soprano soloist and her husband David on lead trumpet.

Johann Sabastian Bach, Daniel Barenboim and Prince Charles.
