Flights between Ronaldsway and Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport have been diverted or cancelled due to an emergency closure.

Liverpool’s airport closed this morning following a private jet overshooting the runway.

This morning’s Flybe flight to Liverpool is showing as being diverted to Manchester by Liverpool airport’s website with the return journey to the island cancelled.

It is not yet known how long the airport will remain closed, however the Liverpool Echo is reporting it is unlikely to open until at least this afternoon.

A spokesperson for Liverpool John Lennon Airport said: ’We can confirm there was an incident at around 6am this morning when a private jet with three crew and one passenger on board came off the runway after landing.

’There were no injuries and the runway is expected to be closed until this afternoon while the Airport deals with the incident.

’Anyone travelling from the airport today is advised to contact their airline for the latest information.

’We apologise for any inconvenience caused and can assure customers we are doing all we can to resume services as quickly as possible. Further updates to follow.’

This afternoon’s EasyJet flight to the island and return to Liverpool have now also been cancelled.
