Tynwald members will be given a briefing this week on why the cost of the Liverpool landing stage has increased again.

As revealed in the Examiner today, the cost to tax payers has increased by almost £7m since April when planning approval was granted.

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer MHK is set to ask Tynwald to sign off on providing £26.8m for the landing stage at Princes Half-Tide Dock.

That figure along with the more than £11m already spent would mean tax payers will have to pay over £38m for the new landing stage.

It is understood that Tynwald members will be briefed on the extra cost before the end of the week.

No reason has yet been offered as to why more public money is needed for the project which has risen in price several times since its inception.

More details on the increase and the refinancing of the Steam Packet can be found in the Examiner, in shops now.
