London City Airport has suspended all flights in and out the airport until the end of April as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to tear through the air industry.
The decision leaves Liverpool as the island’s only passenger air link, with the mail plane coming in from East Midlands Airport, Leicestershire.
All flights from the UK capital’s smallest airport have been cancelled, with the exception of the Isle of Man flight due to arrive in London at 6.35pm. According to Ronaldway’s flight information, the return flight to the island will operate as scheduled.
London City Airport chief executive Robert Sinclair said it was the ’right and responsible course of action to protect the safety and wellbeing of our staff and passengers’.
He added: "The fundamentals of our business remain strong. The airport is backed by very committed, long-term investors and, once confidence returns to the market, the airport and our staff will be ready once again to quickly return to normal operations.’
The London City route was operated by airline Loganair, on behalf of British Airways. The Scottish airline is also now running the Liverpool route following the collapse of Flybe.
At Ronaldsway, all flights in and out of the island are cancelled for the remainder of the day with the except of the London City and Liverpool flights.
