A Douglas based arts school is holding a special week of courses and projects to take part in over the forthcoming school break.
Artist Debra Tracey will be holding a weeks worth of workshops and fun interactive sessions at the Kensington Road Youth Arts Centre, Kensington Road, Douglas, between Monday, February 18 and Friday, February 22.
Aimed at school children between the ages of 6 to 16, the courses will see the kids taking part in activities such as paper mache modelling, painting and designing and creating their own mosaic works of art.
Debra is an award-winning artist who specialises in creating glass decorations and mosaics, and was previously responsible for the 'Garey Glass’ projects, which saw the creation of a mosaic trail through the sunken gardens on Douglas Promenade.
Having spent time living away, she returned to the island last year, working at the Grenaby art studios, under the name ’Isle Be Creative’.
’I will be teaching the students about creating their own mosaics, and also techniques, such as marble-effect painting,’ said Debra.
’I’ll be helping them with their own personal mosaic projects, and also I want each child who comes along to help create a large, lasting mosaic, which will be left permanently on display at the Youth arts centre.’
Monday will see the group making mythical monsters out of paper mache, followed by marbled-pattern, painting, and Tuesday will see two workshops dedicated to creating mosaics out of both card and foam pieces.
The work will begin on the group mosaic on the Wednesday and Thursday, along with the chance to paint their mythical creatures.
Friday will see the competition of the group mosaic, along with a paper craft session.
’However, there will be other crafts and activities to take part in if the kids don’t want to try that and would rather have a go at something else, and there will also be quiet working area too.
The courses which begin at 9am and go on until 4pm, with a break for dinner, cost £40 per day, including materials, or £125 for a whole week’s block booking.
