No sooner had we reopened the doors of the Family Library to the public last week, then we were out on the road again - and what a few days it has been.
On Tuesday, we were proud to team up with the RAF and the Smallpeice Trust to help local schools participate in the RAF Primary Space Challenge.
After delivering kits to four island primary schools, it was great to see pupils at Anagh Coar, Manor Park and Ballasalla gain such enjoyment and knowledge from the initiative and we feel sure pupils at Henry Bloom Noble School will do the same when they take part this morning (Thursday).
The Trust, an independent charity that provides programmes to promote engineering careers to young people, arranged the half-day workshops with children in years 4 to 6 taking on the role of young aerospace engineers to design and build a rocket for launching a satellite into space, using knowledge gained in a livestream element at the start of the day.
Working alongside the RAF, which has funded 100 different schools to get involved in the project throughout the UK (including a handful in the island), the rockets were then tested to determine which designs worked the best and helping the children explore the links to forces such as friction, gravity, and motion.
Hopefully the event will inspire many more young people to find out more about how the world around them works and to study STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects in the future.
Elsewhere, thanks to all of you who joined in and shared with us our exciting online programme of fun activities during the lockdown.
It has been so important to keep in touch with you all, both new friends and the members we all know so well.
We look forward to seeing you in person (and online) again over the next few weeks.
In the meantime, if you want to keep up-to-date on events and to find out more about the services available, check out the Family Library page on Facebook, call the library on 640650 or visit familylibrary.im
The website has everything you need to know about the Family Library, Schools Service and Mobile Library.
