A scouting group in Marown is in need of a new leader for its Cub Scouts.
The current leader of 1st Marown Cubs, Sarah Gartland, is stepping down after six years in the role.
Across the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, 1st Marown has a total of 40 to 50 girls and boys aged from six to 13 and meet on Friday evenings at Marown School. The cubs are aged eight to 10.
Group Scout leader Paul Craine says: ’Our current akela, Sarah, has done a great job. She has a new business venture and family commitments and she leaves with our thanks and very best wishes.
’In the Scouting programme, Akela (the leader of the Indian wolves from Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book) is a symbol of wisdom, authority and leadership, so we are looking for someone who will enjoy the challenge of taking on this wonderfully rewarding role.
’Through games, badge work, visits and experiences, scouting can make an enormous contribution to the development of young people.’
The group would prefer previous Scouting experience, however support can be given to someone new to the role.
Mr Craine fears if a new akela cannot be found by September, the cubs’ sessions may have to be suspended until someone can fill the role.
Paul Craine can be contacted on 851861 or 471317 and via [email protected].
