Telling stories with her youngest son has led a mother to publish her first children’s tale.
’A Tail’s Tale: An Adventure of a Manx Cat’ is the first children’s book written and released by Jane Leece.
The book features a charming Julia Donaldson-inspired poem about a Manx cat who travels all over the Isle of Man to find his missing tail and is aimed at young readers aged between four and 10 years old.
Jane said she came up with the story after she and her eight-year-old son Ben spent time making their own stories up for each other.
With encouragement from her husband Steve, Jane arranged one of her tales into a poetic story which has now been published online.
’Writing a book was something that I always wanted to get around to doing and I always told myself that when I had the time I would try and write children’s stories,’ said Jane.
’I found that once I started to write the book, I was able to finish it quite quickly.
’I think it took me about two days to get my ideas turned into the poem.
’I was very inspired by the work of Julia Donaldson and I thought this story of a cat trying to find his tail, and also finding out a little about himself along the way, would work well written into the same rhyming style as she uses.’
Jane’s first book has already received a positive reception from her audience.
She was invited to read the story out to a class from the Peel Clothworkers’ school at an event held for World Book Day, at the start of March.
’Ben had told some of his teachers at the Clothworkers’ school that I had written and published a story and they invited me to read it to the children on World Book Day,’ she said.
’That was such a big thing to do for me especially as it was my old school.
’I have had some wonderful feedback since then, both from the children and from parents who have read it to their children.
’That has given me a lot of confidence and belief in myself, and I hope to carry on with the stories in the future.’
