Manx National Heritage cafes at the Sound and Cregneash have been awarded on five-year leases to Riverside Limited, the existing contract holders, following a competitive bid process.

The Sound Café is a stunning place to appreciate the island’s coastal beauty, whether on a sunny summer afternoon or a dramatic winter morning.

The cafe enjoys panoramic views of Kitterland and the Calf of Man, a bird observatory and nature reserve also owned by Manx National Heritage.

Just up the road, the café set within the historic crofting village of Cregneash, offers a warm fireside welcome and outdoor seating on a sunny day.

In addition to operating the two Manx National Heritage owned cafes, Riverside also operate Aqua Café at the National Sports Centre and the Bradda Glen Restaurant.

Manx National Heritage confirmed that the use of local produce was considered as part of the evaluation of proposals, where sample menus, with seasonal and daily variations, and other customer needs were taken into account.

Locally-produced goods also formed part of the evaluation of the economic benefit of proposals.

Adrian Christian, managing director of Riverside, said: ’We are delighted to have secured both premises for a further five-year period, continuing our relationship with Manx National Heritage at The Sound, one of the island’s most visited sites and Cregneash, a working museum and village.

’Both cafés are unique and we plan to help both tourists and locals appreciate their beauty over good food and coffee, partnering with many local suppliers.’

The lease announcement comes in advance of Manx National Heritage visitor attractions opening for the summer season from April 1, when Cregneash Café will also re-open for summer, while the Sound Café remains open all year round.
