Businesswoman Sara Collister has attained the international recognised IoD Diploma.

Ms Collister, who is a member of the leadership team at an investment and fund management company, FIM Capital, has achieved the qualification offered by the Institute of Directors.

It is recognised internationally as the benchmark for directors and is said to equip candidates with an array of skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to lead an organisation from a strategic perspective.

Ms Collister has passed this qualification while fulfilling her role as head of offshore administration of FIM Capital, which is based on Athol Street inDouglas.

In addition, as part of the Institute of Directors Company Direction programme Ms Collister has also attained the IoD Certificate in Company Direction with distinction.

Ms Collister said: ’I found the IoD Diploma course incredibly challenging and completing this alongside my current role involved lots of long hours and commitment, so I am naturally delighted to have attained this internationally recognised qualification.’

tough

Chief information officer Russell Collister said: ’The Institute of Directors diploma is a tough exam covering a number of wide-ranging topics.

’Over the last year Sara has worked diligently to accomplish this goal and is thoroughly deserving of her success.’

l From March Isle of Man-based company directors will be able to complete the Institute of Directors Certificate in Company Direction at St John’s Mill.

The certificate is a qualification that the IoD says is respected world-wide and sits as an equivalent to degree level.

It covers the key areas of governance, finance, strategy and leadership, providing delegates with a foundation in ’effective’ directorship.

The course gives participants a view of the role, responsibilities and legal duties of a director and includes such items as an understanding of the characteristics of an effective board; sound knowledge of financial terms and concepts; the issues and processes associated with formulating strategic business plans and achieving strategic leadership, and what organisers call ’enriched peer learning’ with directors across the globe.

From September, IoD Isle of Man plans to host the diploma in company direction.

The Institute of Directors suggested that this was an ideal opportunity for delegates who have completed the full certificate.

In its words, the course is ’designed to challenge and use knowledge via practical application’.
