The Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB) has announced the death of Paul Bird.

Originally from Cumbria, Mr Bird was heavily involved with the TT, having run riders such as John McGuinness.

Mr Bird was the team owner of Paul Bird Motorsport (PBM), the BSB series' most successful team.

A statement read: 'Paul Bird died earlier today (Friday September 1) at the age of 56 following a short time in hospital with illness.

'Paul’s family are requesting privacy during this time.'
