More than 40 youngsters danced, rapped and sang their way through the ’Youth’ Got Talent’ show on Monday.

The event was held at at the Youth Arts Centre in Kensington Road, Douglas.

Dance acts were the most popular of all the entries, with teams from Onchan, Douglas and Cronk-y-Berry all entering.

There was some inventive rapping by Mitzi Danielson, who performed the poem ’Aaron Burr Sir’ in the style of a ’Hamilton Rap’, essentially a piece of classic poetry portrayed in the style of contemporary rap song and also a great solo song performed by singer Callum Brew, who sang ’I’m Not The Only One’.

The breakdance duo of ’J-Breakers’, featuring Jackson Katz & Junior Fernando, from Pulrose Youth Club were voted as the best Junior act, after their terrific joint performance, out-doing each other with a variety of moves and routines.

Fiona Helleur, head of Youth Arts Isle of Man, who organised the talent show, said it was a great chance for youngsters to perform onstage, especially those who may not get the chance at their own schools.

’It’s basically an opportunity for kids who never take part in shows to have a chance to get on stage and sing, dance perform, whatever they are good at and have a go themselves,’ said Fiona.

’We have some very good musicians and dancers who haven’t really performed before, so it will be a very interesting experience for them to get onstage.

There were about 40 kids who are taking part altogether, basically giving an opportunity to the kids who don’t normally get a chance, who perhaps are too shy to go onstage in front of all their friends.

’It’s fun, friendly and informal. The prize is a chocolate medal, and a cup for their youth club.

’It was all about building confidence and getting self-esteem going and just letting them generally have a go. That’s the best bit about it.’
