Newly-elected MHK Claire Christian has been given two new roles.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle has appointed her as political member in the Department of Education, Sport and Culture and the Department of Infrastructure.

Political members work with government ministers overseeing the role of the departments.

For that they get a 30% rise on their basic £44,675 salary.

Mr Quayle said: ’I am delighted Mrs Christian has accepted the opportunity to work with both departments and am sure she will serve with diligence and integrity.

’As this administration enters its final year, there is a considerable amount to be achieved, and challenges to navigate.

’Introducing a fresh perspective should always be regarded as a positive move, and I anticipate Mrs Christian will play a full and active role.’

Mrs Christian, who won her Douglas South seat earlier this month, said: ’I look forward to starting work with both departments and thank the Chief Minister for presenting the opportunity to play my part alongside this administration.

’My career and business background have provided a range of experiences on which to draw, and I am eager to help deliver the aims of departments which play such significant roles in our community.’
