Gerard Higgins is the fourth candidate to announce he is standing as an MHK for Douglas South.
Mr Higgins says that he wants to see ’a new, dynamic and progressive style of politics with an emphasis on fairness, openness, transparency and listening to the needs of the people and their communities’.
He believes he can utilise his experience of working in the Treasury for 39 years in bringing about ’more efficient and effective government’ and that this background will enable him to ’hit the ground running’ an MHK.
In addition to this, Mr Higgins says that his taxation knowledge would be ’beneficial in navigating through the challenges that the island’s 0/10 regime will face from Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development initiatives’.
The other candidates standing for Douglas South are incumbent MHKs Claire Christian and Paul Quine, and the Manx Labour Party’s Sarah Maltby.
