Tribute was paid to three former Tynwald members at last week’s sitting.
Tynwald president Steve Rodan remembered former Ayre MHK Lionel Morrey, Douglas South MHK Bill Malarkey and former MLC David Callister.
Mr Malarkey was Home Affairs minister at the time of his death last month. Mr Rodan said: ’We remember a passionate and often forthright debater, a man of conviction but also with a mischievous sense of fun which will be long missed by his friends and colleagues.’
Mr Morrey, a dairy farmer and agriculture businessman, served as Ayre MHK from 1985-86, replacing Norman Radcliffe, who had joined the Legislative Council.
Mr Rodan said: ’During his short time with us, he served as a member of the Forestry Board and was vice-chairman of the Passenger Transport Board and the Gaming Board.’
Mr Callister was best known for his work with Manx Radio, before serving one term as an MLC, from 2008.
’David made a memorable contribution to Manx life, not only during his five years in Tynwald that we remember, but as a great political observer, known to every household in the land as the voice of Manx Radio,’ he said.
