Scaffolding costs for the roof repair work at Pulrose power station will reach £110,000.

Figures released by Manx Utilities Authority chairman Dr Alex Allinson show that the design, erect and hire charges to the end of April this year were £42,644, the hire charges until the end of November were £35,066.88 and the hire charges until the end of March will be £32,298.50 - a total of £110,009.38.

Dr Allinson added: ’The work was not tendered and commissioned on an emergency basis - due to public and employee safety risks and electricity supply security risks - using Red Scaffolding.’

He added that Manx Utilities was scheduled to tender a contract for a three-year scaffolding services contract next year.

A section of roof was blown off during Storm Doris in February, although the power station itself was not affected.
