Party goers from the 1970s and 80s will get a chance to relive their glory years this weekend at a birthday party with a difference.

The Palace Lido Centenary celebration takes place at the Villa Marina on Saturday, November 14, from 8pm.

Organised by promoter Roy Shuttleworth, the huge party bash is being held to commemorate the opening of the Palace Lido, on Douglas promenade.

Former Palace DJs Chris Shaw and Heath Craig will supply the music, along with a video appearance by Stu Lowe, now living in Canada.

There will also be appearances by former staff members.

The Palace Lido was the heartbeat of the Douglas nightlife for much of the 20th century and is fondly remembered by those who attend some of the many rock and pop concerts that took place between the 1950s and late 80s.

It was also a legendary thriving, loud and entertaining nightclub which once hosted the ITV show ’The Hitman and Her’, presented by Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan, and its features are still fondly remembered those who frequented it.

The Palace was rebuilt in 1920, following a fire and, before closing at the turn of the 1990s and its demolition in 1994, claimed to be the biggest ballroom in Europe.

Tickets for the party are £19.50 for adults and £14.50 for seniors and NHS workers, available online from villagaiety.com
