People are being invited to lace up their shoes and join Junior Achievement Isle of Man in its walking fundraiser.

The Big Summer Walk will see a number of people walk, jog or run 100km over the summer months while raising funds towards the charity that helps young people gain essential skills before leaving full-time education.

The free event, sponsored by Chase Wealth Solutions, is a family-friendly one and encourages people to keep active and explore the island at their own pace.

The closing date for the educational charity’s fundraiser is September 7.

Every individual who completes the challenge and raises £35 or more will be rewarded with The Big Summer Walk medal.

Prizes up for grab including: best photograph - the winning photo will be made into a canvas; Best video - Akaso 4K Sport Action waterproof camera with Ultra HD; Most money raised by an individual - Fitbit Inspire HR fitness tracker; and Most money raised by a family or group - voucher for a stay in a Glen Helen camping pod, donated by Glen Helen Glamping.

JA’s chief executive, Sue Cook, said The Big Summer Walk will enable them to continue to work with more than 5,000 children across the island.

The charity said it took a big hit after a team of five residents had their fundraising trip in the El Camino De Santiago Trek in northern Spain cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The team were due to walk 100km over five days in October.

It was expected that they would raise more that £20,000 for JA.

JA was keen to re-work the trek and instead launch a Manx version for all ages and abilities.
