Father-of-three Paul Lancaster has not just one but two Courier rounds.
He fits them in around shift work at Isle of Man Airport, where he’s a lead agent on the ticket desk.
One round includes delivering 125 papers to Manor Park, Groudle Road and Harbour View, in Onchan, while the other is right on his doorstep, 113 papers to Heywood Park, also in Onchan. Paul, 52, explained: ’Doing the round at Manor Park, the views are to die for. You can let your mind wander and it’s good for the body. Obviously, there’s bad days when it’s raining but predominantly it’s good to get out in the fresh air.’
Paul first had a round in 1999 and since then has also provided cover for other rounds during the holidays.
’When you’re delivering papers your brain is busy trying to figure out which is the best route and looking out for dogs and other obstacles. I’ve got the Manor Park round down to a tee, it takes about an hour and a half.’
But Paul had a word of warning for anyone thinking of taking on a round: ’Watch out for hanging baskets - they’re a nightmare! A couple of times I’ve headbutted hanging baskets that weren’t there the previous week.’
* Would you like to be a Courier distributor? There are rounds available across the island. The minimum age is 13.
