The Christmas Tractor Runs are among the island’s most eagerly anticipated and beloved festive events and this year they were bigger and better than ever.

They are organised by the Isle of Man Federation of Young Farmers Clubs with members proudly decorating their tractors more and more extravagantly every year.

This year, they were raising money for two local charities, the Hyperbaric Chamber and Reach IOM, and many of the tractors were being sponsored by local businesses and organisations to help boost the total.

The first run, on Friday night, set off from Port Erin breakwater and travelled through Colby, Ballabeg, Castletown, Ballasalla, Foxdale, St John’s, Crosby and Union Mills before reaching the Grandstand at 9.15pm.

The second run, on Saturday night, saw the massed ranks of tractors gathering on Peel Promenade before setting out along the coast road to Kirk Michael, then on to Ballaugh, Sulby and Ramsey where they stopped for a break. Then it was on down to the Dhoon, Laxey and Onchan before finishing at the Grandstand at 9pm.

Crowds gathered all along the routes with favourite viewing spots including Castletown Square, the Wildlife Park and Kirk Michael, where the tractors slow right down to run through the village.
