What better way is there to round off celebrating Tynwald day than with an evening of music, dancing, bagpipes and a fire show?
Tynwaldfest returns to the national day of celebration this year, again taking place in the large marquee to the left of the Tynwald fair field, and will feature a line up of local, traditional and contemporary music, along with plenty of other eye-catching elements.
The music will be supplied by Clash Vooar, the Isla Callsiter Trio and the perennial Tynwaldfest favourites, ten-piece soul and funk group Retrospect.
Six piece the Manx folk and jazz group Clash Vooar released their debut album, Rumours of Unease, earlier this year, and will kick off the music at 5pm.
The Isla Callister Trio will be on stage from 6pm.
Isla is a born-and-bred Peel girl who has moved to Glasgow to study traditional music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
She will be followed by Retrospect, the island’s rhythm and blues big band, who play a mix of soul, funk and pop covers.
They will be on stage from 7pm, and will be followed by the famous Tynwald day Ceili, which kicks off at 8.15pm.
Led by the Kippercaillie band, the ceili will last until the Ellan Vannin Pipes take to the hill at 10pm.
The pipers will be accompanied by a spectacular fire show by the dancers of Spinning Vannin.
Tynwaldfest was devised as a way of ensuring that there was entertainment throughout Tynwald Day.
Organiser Gráinne Joughin says the evening is suitable for all the family and that everyone will be well catered for.
’Ideally we want people to stay and hang around the Tynwald field for the rest of the day,’ said Gráinne.
’The music and ceili is free to watch and join in with, and there is plenty of food available on the night, including Ballakelly Farms, What the Fork and the Black Dog Oven, and Foraging Vintners will be running the bar for us.
’We also making Tynwaldfest plastic free, and we will not be having any single plastics on site.
’We will be using vegware plates and cups, and there will be plenty of places where you can refill your water bottles.’
Dancers from Gena’s Dance academy will also put on a demonstration outside the festival tent at 3pm, and Spinning Vannin will hold a children’s circus workshop on the field from 4pm.
