A football club is appealing for information after vandals broke into their Onchan stadium home.
Onchan AFC said on Facebook that one or more people entered the Nivison Stadium, owned by Onchan Commissioners, on Sunday night and caused damage to the facilities.
Club chairman James Duddy revealed the damage involved smashing windows and doors, possibly with a hammer, and then vandalised the referee’s changing room and one of the team changing rooms.
Some walls have been graffitied and milk has been poured in various rooms in the downstairs changing area within the main stand of the stadium.
Its defibrillator is missing.
Mr Duddy said: ’It absolutely stinks and there is glass everywhere.
’I’m really angry and disappointed.
’We are going to struggle to get our game on at the weekend.
’Although the commissioners are being good with emergency repairs, there will have to be a claim on the insurance.’
Onchan is due to play Pulrose on Saturday at 2pm in JCK Ltd Division 2.
The cost of the damage is yet to be calculated.
Mr Duddy told the Manx Independent that the club was made aware of evidence of things being burned in the stadium.
Mr Duddy said that the club believes a gang of youths entered the stadium through the fire escape and accessed the lower area of the stand through the steps that lead from the changing rooms to the pitch.
The club is appealing for anyone with information about the damage to contact police headquarters on 631212.
Newly-appointed chief executive of Onchan Commissioners, Linda Radcliffe, told the Manx Independent: ’At the moment we are helping police with their investigations.
’It’s disappointing - any act of vandalism costs money.
’We are working with police to look at measures to keep young people out and potentially stop further vandalism in that area.’
