Primary schools are being invited to celebrate the island’s unique Unesco biosphere status by taking part in a week-long event next summer.
Pupils can learn how biosphere status benefits the island with special lessons, speakers, assemblies, trips out and crafts during the week beginning June 27, 2022.
Education Minister Alex Allinson said: ’Through the support of organisations such as Culture Vannin, Manx National Heritage, local charities and the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, schools are well supported and resourced in their teaching about Manx culture and the environment and I’m looking forward to seeing the innovative ways our schools demonstrate their commitment to their Unesco Biosphere Pledges in this special week.’
Environment Minister Geoffrey Boot said: ’The week will be a fantastic way for pupils to explore what it means to be citizens of a Unesco Biosphere and how they contribute to it through their own learning and actions.
’I hope the week inspires them to learn about, value and enjoy what it means to be a Biosphere.’
