Has everyone come back down to earth after Ben Stokes’s superhuman batting effort on Sunday?
It was an amazing innings by the all-rounder to keep England in the fight to win the Ashes. Well done Sir Ben!
Locally three games are scheduled for this weekend as the league season nears its conclusion.
Hannan Law Crosby travel to King William’s College on Saturday in Division One, when they play Newfield Castletown at midday.
Crosby celebrated their status as mid-week Cain League title with a win over CTI Insurance Ramsey last time out.
Their batsmen continued to put on the runs despite a resilient fight by the Ramsey bowlers, but it was the Marown side’s bowlers who completed the job.
Ed Walker, Chris Langford and Jacob Butler made sure that it was only late on that Ramsey could try to attack the 158 target.
Walker came back on to bowl and finished the tail off with three wickets, which gave him a ’fifer’.
The Crosby bowlers will face a resurgent Town, who have won all their five matches in Division One.
The southerners demolished Baker Tilly Isle of Man Cronkbourne last Saturday and their bowlers will be keen to have a go at the Crosby batsmen.
Richard Jackson took four wickets for 23 last week and he will be on the spot this time too no doubt.
Town’s batsmen, such as Sam Callister, Jaco Jansen and Dan Laughlin have had some success in recent matches, meaning Crosby will need to be on their A game to beat the team from the south.
CTI Insurance Ramsey will travel to play Baker Tilly Isle of Man Cronkbourne at the Douglas side’s Tromode home in the day’s other Division One match.
Cronkbourne had two bad days at the office last weekend, ones that they will not care to remember fondly.
They lost on Saturday to Town and they were in pole position to win the Tinker Cup against Peel and St John’s (PSJ) but could not capitalise on their advantage.
They seemed frustrated that they had let PSJ put more runs on the board than they ought to have and this carried through to their batting.
They needed only 120 but there were some silly shots played at times, which led to wickets falling.
Cronkbourne should win this match but Ramsey scored their only victory of the season when they beat the Tromode outfit earlier in the season.
Ramsey will need to rein in their extras count again.
They conceded 38 against Crosby, making them the top scorer.
Shimmin Wilson Peel and St John’s (PSJ) play Ramsey Crookall Finch Hill at Mullen-e-Cloie on Saturday in the Premier League, starting at 1pm.
PSJ will no doubt be continuing to celebrate their win in the Tinker Cup final on Sunday.
A patched-together team took on Cronkbourne and deservedly won the game.
Will their supposed star players be allowed back in the team? Skipper, Ollie Webster, among others waltzed off to watch one of the most dramatic days cricket ever, while his team-mates back home won the cup for him.
I imagine that he will be back trying to emulate the innings of Mr Stokes.
Once again, the battle will be between Webster and George Burrows of Finch Hill.
Either batsmen can be devastating to the opposition’s chances of a win if allowed to get a start.
PSJ have bowlers who are doing well with Brendan Bennett taking five wickets against Valkyres and Kieran Cawte securing the Man of the Match award in Sunday’s Tinker Cup final.
Greg Miller should also not be forgotten - he took three wickets for nine runs in the final.
Finch Hill’s other Burrows brothers, Joe and Tom, have a strike partnership that can cause the opposition problems if they bowl well.
Spencer and Fraser Clarke are learning their craft and they may be able to get into the middle order of PSJ if they get the chance. The westerners should win this match though.
